Cockscomb Basin Wildlife Nature Hikes
Explore Belize’s Jaguar Preserve and natural wonders.
This adventure begins with a scenic 1-hour drive from Placencia Village or a 30-minutes drive from Hopkins Village to the Cockscomb Basin Wildlife Sanctuary, home to Belize’s renowned Jaguar Preserve and some of the country’s most beautiful waterfalls.
Immerse yourself in nature as you hike through this lush, protected rainforest reserve. Cockscomb is not only famous for its jaguars, but also for other wild cats including pumas, ocelots, jaguarondis’, and margays. Along the way, you may also spot tapirs, deer’s, monkeys, colorful birds, amphibians, reptiles, and an incredible variety of native plants.
The sanctuary offers a range of hiking trails that vary in terrain and vegetation, allowing you to choose a path that suits your interest and pace. After the hike, you can opt to add a river tubing experience—a 15-minute hike leads to the starting point where you’ll float for about an hour along the refreshing South Stann Creek River, surrounded by the sounds of the jungle.
