ATM Cave Exploration
Your journey into the ancient underworld begins here.
This thrilling adventure starts from Placencia with a 2-hour drive (or 1.5 hours from Hopkins) along the scenic Hummingbird Highway. Prepare to explore one of the most sacred and pristine cave systems in the world—Actun Tunichil Muknal (ATM) Cave—recognized by National Geographic as the #1 sacred cave destination globally.
Deep within the Tapir Mountain Nature Reserve, the ATM Cave offers not only a breathtaking display of crystal-clear stalactites and stalagmites but also a natural museum of Mayan history. This site was once used by the ancient Mayans for ceremonial purposes and as a sacred burial ground. Inside, you’ll encounter pottery, artifacts, and the famous full skeletal remains of the “Crystal Maiden,” preserved for over a thousand years.
The adventure begins as you swim into the cave entrance, guided only by your headlamp. Throughout the tour, you’ll wade through cool waters, climb over boulders, and squeeze through tight passages. As you ascend to the upper chambers, you’ll be required to remove your shoes and continue in socks to protect the sacred relics underfoot.
Your certified guide will lead you through this unforgettable experience, sharing deep insight into Mayan mythology, archaeology, and natural wonders—only with Belize Untold Adventures.
